FHWA Safe Transportation for Every Pedestrian (STEP) Videos
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Safe Transportation for Every Pedestrian (STEP) program developed a series of videos to promote countermeasures that reduce crash risk for pedestrians crossing roadways. These brief videos explain the safety benefits of five countermeasures including crosswalk visibility enhancements, refuge islands, raised crosswalks, Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons, and Road Diets. Each video highlights local transportation officials where the countermeasures have been implemented, and the videos show how pedestrians and drivers use or interact at the crossing improvements. These videos can be used in public meetings or shared through social media to help educate pedestrians, drivers, and local decision-makers.
